I agree. It was sad that Rudy died but devastated at her loss of "papa" the man who stepped up and loved and cared for her so much.
Same here. The two times I cried during this book were after reading Max's "Standover Man" story written for Liesel & when Papa Hans died (my hero)! Zusak's metaphor of Hans' corpse being a lifeless accordion with empty bellows was beautiful.
