P.C. Zick I agree about The Pearl. I taught it for years and for some of my kids it was the first book they read all the way to the end. It's beautiful and short - a great combo for teenagers.

Jon Sindell Cynjit, if kids can love anything presented well, imagine if the work is a true literary masterpiece, as this is! It appears a consensus is building, Angela.

Monty J Heying There you are, Cynjit. You've said it all in one word, passion. A teacher's passion for the subject is like the sun coming from behind a cloud.

Alisa I read "Catcher" when I was about 19 or 20 and then again when I was about 45. I can tell you that I found the book far more poignant and interesting as an adult. I don't think it's bad for kids to read it, but I truly recommend a rereading for those of you in the older set.
