I think he certainly got a bit more critical as the book progressed, but yeah, I agree that at the onset he was a bit too self-effacing. But then, that's philosophy for you I suppose.
if you watch the 4 horsemen DVD, he admits to giving the book to his theological friends and he tried to not offend them when writing it. Yes, he has def said some thing very harsh of religion, but in the context of this topic, i think he could be less reasonable haha.
