I agree.
I third that. It is written as though from Cromwell's point of view as a man who is not self-reflective. Notice how he doesn't see how he projects (always surprised when someone tells him he looks dangerous.) Notice how we never get a real look at Cromwell until he's being painted by Holbein. It's a very calculated and, I think, stunningly successful device that is at first hard to adjust to - like how your eyes adjust to dimmer light - but soon makes perfect literary sense. I applaud Mantel for taking this risk.
