Jennifer I read that book in the year 1984, and it scared me to death because even at age 13, that was the way I saw the world heading, and now we have the Patriot Act which has completely undone all the good that was done by the end of the Cold War and the downing of the Berlin wall. 1984 came to pass in 2001....

Jennifer Scared me to death.......because I could I imagine that future. I read Animal Farm the same year... it didn't help my growing paranoia :)

Brad Lyerla 1984 is a great book. But it's not about how the world really is. It's about the dangers of totalitarianism, which we have never seen in the US, not even a little. Read the Gulag Archipelago if you want to read about real totalitarianism.
