Daniel The idea that they'd imagine themselves controlling her seems so silly, but I suppose you're right about that.

Maxine Owen Actually, Firestarter proved that one could be controlled by using the threat of violence against someone she loved.

Daniel I thought that's where it was going but they didn't in the book. They talked about doing it but never got around to it, really. I guess Rainbird did something similar when he asked her to climb the ladder, but that was really all. Maybe in the movie they did use that to control her, but the closest they got in the book was essentially manipulating her, which was a short term game.

They never really did get any kind of long term control. I was a little surprised by that.
