I agree with you Christine. It all depends on the reader. Reading aloud is now almost a forgotten art. I have a recording of Dylan Thomas reading his poetry. He was an amazing reader of his poetry and the poetry of other poets.
It makes a pleasant change to have someone reading out aloud to you however I would never give up reading a book myself!
I love to read but I also love the audiobooks. I have bad eyesight and need to have them. Most books are not in large print. I love the fact that I can put on the earphones and crochet and tune things out except for the audio. Better than tv. I do not like the abridged versions though. They are not worth listening to but the UNABRIDGED versions are the only ones worth listening to.
