Yes, they are very silly!
Loved the book was sorry that I had ever eaten rabbit. Then I remembered My oldest child at age three reaching in the cage unable to catch a rabbit to hold putting her hands on her hips and saying "Well ha ha ha Daddy's going to butcher you. OOPS
Charles, did you see the movie "Ramblin' Rose." The doctor is convinced Rose is healthy because she ate rabbits as a child.
I'll put it on my netflix que. Might find the book too.

I have a Claremont experience Lived on a ranch Belonging to my father's cousin Donald McKenna. My father Worked at Pomona Pump before WW2. My Cousin Linda McKenna Boxx is still on the board at McKenna College (or she was)
I have read this book more than once and watched the movie too. It is so touching. I read and watched with watery eyes. I was completely drawn into the story and became one of the rabits. I love this book.
