Alyssa When I was reading the book, I always pictured Charlie younger than 16 just because of how he thinks and narrates the story. So I guess that was slightly correct if this incident has trapped him in a childish state.

Caitlinjoy That's because he was under 16 at the start^^
and I do not think he had autism or aspergers that is a TOTALLY different thing!!!!!

Rachel I think he suffers from PTSD because he was molested as a child, and his brain wants to block that because he was so young. And BECAUSE he was so young, in a way, had his childhood taken from him, he does have a younger air to his attitude and the way he narrates the story and that's why. It's almost like he's trying to compensate for his lost innocence. At least, that's what I got. Either way, he's such an endearingly sweet character.

Somerandom It's called Arrested Development, if memory serves. It's quite common in children who experience traumatic experiences. A part of them stays at the age they were traumatized because it's just the way the brain adapts, I guess.

Abby Rose I have Asperger's. And I'm reading "Perks" now, trust me, Charlie probably does NOT have aspergers. If he does, I would be FURIOUS at the brutally inaccurate way Asperger's is being shown. the media has not been kind to us social autistics one bit; that Arthur episode was cringe worthy, for starters and that's supposed to educate children!
