Oh, I agree especially about the children's narrative playing into their version of reality. I actually enjoyed the ending, and I didn't feel it lacking because there wasn't a solution. That being said, I'm still curious, and Donna Tartt has mentioned in interviews that the answer is somewhere in the book.
Allison? I'm not even sure why I'm suggesting that. But it drives me mad that she would've insinuated in an interview that we should know.
I have to admit that I was very, very disappointed by the ending. Even though the book was well-written, you keep reading it because you want to know who did it. I just felt frustrated, like the author took one great joy away from me.
