This isn't true at all. For one thing, kids usually enjoy To Kill a Mockingbird. For another thing, kids usually really enjoy Huckleberry Finn too.
Ha, maybe that's true, I'm only going off my own hs experience! I did love To Kill a Mockingbird...I just thought the OP wanted a modern book.
Yeah, I think you're right, I just disagreed with the kids not liking either of those books. I think a lot of it depends on the teacher as well!
I agree, "why take a book out of schools and replace it with..." anything that kids can't relate to these days.
