Susan I thought she killed coin to avenge Prim's death -- it was most likely Coin who ordered the bombs that killed all those children. The rebels did it, but made it look like it was Snow's orders.

Samantha I also think Coin was kind of being a dictator, and even if Coin was leading the rebellion, the last thing anybody needed was a dictator

Hayley When Coin proposed reinstating the hunger games, Katniss realized that she was going to be as tyrannical and heartless as the government they had just overthrown. Their fight would have been in vain if they replaced Snow with another leader willing to rule by violence and fear. I think Katniss killed Coin in part to avenge Prim, but mainly to follow through on the war against a despotic and hypocritical government. If Coin remained in charge and allowed the hunger games to continue, the revolution would have accomplished nothing.

As for Gale, I believe that his role in Prim's death (he designed the weapon that killed her), albeit an indirect one, created a rift between he and Katniss. Collins explains Katniss's decision in Mockingjay. She says that Gale was fiery and volatile and Katniss needed someone stable and nurturing. She needed bread. She needed Peeta.
