carlton, where did you hear that "speaker
"was to come first?
He mentions it in the introduction to Speaker for the Dead as well as the definitive edition of Ender's Game. He wrote Ender's Game as a short story originally and then came up with the idea for Speaker so he wrote an outline for Speaker, and then expanded Ender's into novel length.
