I agree with the Fanny Price/Jane Eyre comparison. Fanny is sort of "sweetness personified" while Jane has more spirit and independence. Fanny holds a higher moral standard; she also compromises it if I remember correctly... Jane is true to what she believes.
PS Good use of the word fallible ;)
