I know right! The ending is what did it for me. It went by so fast, I had to reread to make sure I didn't miss anything. It felt like it was just put there to be put there.
I feel like the purpose of Delilah was to plant seeds on doubt in Deathcast. Like, maybe there's some kind of conspiracy going on, or some grand scale mess-up, and our boys aren't actually going to die at the end. It's to make it more painful when we realize the author means it.
Come to think of it, beginning was actually slow - I mean, yeah, the dots connected in the end. But still, kind of didn't expect the ending go Lightning McQueen - And + out of context but when Rufus said he saw a dream I HAD HOPE and then they hit us with "Mateo is dead" AND CRACK just shattered my heart.
