I agree with Trevor on the whole "not being mature enough to understand the themes" thing. I can see why this book would have garnered complaints from your children considering they got it in middle school as it is too dark for people of that age. However, if they'd gotten this later on like when I had to read it, they might have enjoyed it more because they'd have matured considerably by 17 years of age. Also, I find it's an acquired taste. You either like it or you don't.

This book is very well written and touches so many important issues about our society, ourselves..dear god, talk about a comment that says more about you than the book itself.
