Ebooks1307 I toatallay agree, Cal should not have let her walk away!

Katie I understand what you're saying, but I actually kind of think it was Mare who was being more selfish at the end. Mare shouldn't have walked away in the first place; she should have talked it out more with him. Cal has sacrificed so much for her, but she hasn't done much in return.

Kate Curran There are some things we all need to be selfish on in life because they are our moral standards/compass. This guides our choices and ultimately our destinies. Mare doesn't want power and she had a taste of what life would be like living in the palace with Maven, so she's not about to enter into another "cage" for Cal (She probably wouldn't even be married to him! Just his lover). I am of the belief that you should never compromise your moral compass for someone you like/love/are interested, whatever it may be. Just my opinion because I know some people who wouldn't think twice about sacrificing everything they believe in for the one they love. Love is about compromises but if your moral standards don't line up or the couple doesn't share a common purpose for life, it will not work out in the end no matter how much compromises or work you put into it. Mare strikes me as someone who believes in being with the one you love for the rest of your life (look at her parents), so living as Cal's side-piece while he's married and having children with Evangeline or whoever would never sit well with her.
