Yes, this is true. But, aren't Romeo and Juliet also responsible for their own actions? And their own deaths?
This is true, Friar Laurence had the power to control whether or not they got married. Him making such a life-changing decision for them, while keeping it a secret, was something he shouldn't have done. He was not thinking of the consequences that could happen, which caused four people to die in the end.
I agree, had Friar Lawrence made a better decision, the deaths of four could have been averted. He should have not made such a drastic decision but then keep it secret.
This is a great point of view. Friar Lawrence used R&J to try and end a brawl between two battling families. If the letter written by the Friar was sent on time, Romeo would've been aware of the plan and the whole shebang would've never happened.
I agree with with this thought. Friar Lawrence should have thought through his plan carefully before executing it, and should not have given Romeo and Juliet false hope for their doomed love in the first place.
I agree that Friar Lawrence's plan got them killed, but why did she have to turn to Friar Lawrence? Because of her parents. Note that she went to Friar Lawrence immediately after the big fight with her parents. Also, Friar Lawrence HAD to come up with a plan to get her out of there. She said, "If, in thy wisdom, thou canst give no help,/ Do thou but call my resolution wise,/ And with this knife I'll help it presently." She was threatening to commit suicide if he couldn't come up with an idea right there that could get her out. She wouldn't go back to her family after that big fight. Also, Romeo is exiled, so she'd want to leave. If the families did not see that she was dead, then they would look for her, and she would never be able to live in peace. Overall, Juliet's parents started the chain of events that caused their death.
I agree, and he could've also made sure that Romeo knew the whole story behind Juliet's death, but instead the story says "Romeo heard only that Juliet was dead".
Yes, I also believe in the fact that it could have been Friar Laurence's fault because he interpreted the wrong information and caused the death of the two lovers. Although it is mostly considered the fault of the family for the feud, it would also be Friar Laurence's fault because he decided to cause a misinterpretation and cause the death of Romeo and Juliet.
