I think this is the key. No one can write exactly like Pterry... even Pterry. I'm doing a complete re-read at the moment and his style varies from book to book, let alone over the decades.
I do think it could be good to have other writers on the Disc. This is a world where literally anything can happen, and it comes pre-fitted with multiple continuity-cleansing devices (trousers of time, history monks) just in case. Why not open it up to selected contributors?
At the very least, have a friends-of-Discworld testimonial short story collection: get ten or so different writers and have them put a story on the Disc (there'll be no shortage of volunteers!). And if any of them are any good, comission books from them; if not, don't.
The obvious occasion for this would be when Pterry dies, but it needn't be that morbid. 40th anniversary in 2023?
