Annerose, most women, not all, but most women love dominant men. This book introduced the world to Christian Grey, the most screwed up dominant that has been read in a book for a while. Give readers characters like Christian Grey and it makes interesting conversation on both sides of the spectrum. :-)
Annerose, I'm still asking that same question. How is it a hit? with a movie that will make hundreds of millions plus the sequel (you know it will) I don't get it. The book was so crap, Ana was super annoying and Christian was an asshat. I don't know about this whole dominant male thing, but I do know he was crazy as a sh*thouse rat. and in reality, things were only going to get worse for her the more controlling he became.
Haha, sh*thouse rat?!
Tamara, thanks for teaching me some new words ;-D
Something else:
Because I read a translation of the book, I wasn't saying anything about the writing style. But now, I read most of the comments here and elsewhere, I get to think, it's not the problem of the translated version but the book in general.
For me, every other character of the book faded behind the annoyance of Anastasia, where the most annoying point for me is, that she doesn't grow through the book and not even till the end of book 3.
Nothing changes...except her clothes.
Sad.
But back to the maybe-movie:
Maybe, it will be better if they hire someone who writes good dialogues...and it will be one of the few situations, where I hope, the movie varies from the book.
(Usually I'd like to be the book as exactly as possible as the movie.)
Thanks Shelley.
I already had a guess, that the hype was about the idea of the book but not the book itself.
So it's the kick people needed to talk about things, what they love about the book?!
Annerose, it was definitely not a translation error. it was actually just that bad.... and as for the movie, I think the acting will be better than what the book gave them to work with, so I think they listened to your wishes about having someone write better dialogues. did you see the little preview sneakpeak for the movie yet?... and your welcome about the new words heehee!
Sorry for the deviation, but honestly, this book had sexually traumatised me after I was done with it. Jesus! I am only human. Christian Grey is one sick son of a b*tch. WHAT IS WITH HOW THE BLOODY PANTS HANG OFF OF HIS WAIST?!?!
I KNOW! *In Joey's Voice*
I really dont give a damn to his fucking pants. I mean it's bad enough that we had to muster all this energy to hate Bella Swan, and now there is competition?!
Don't forget that 50 Shades was originally Twilight Fanfiction so she basically took everything you hated about Bella and made it even worse to make Anastasia, then continued on with Edward/Christian. except she promptly squished all of the minor characters into boring pod people. OMG I think she made Stephanie Meyer's look good???!!!
Hahahahahaha. I made that comment keeping that in mind. Oh lord, the transformation was horrifying. Haven't we suffered enough with the twilight series?!
