Ah but you're making the mistake of thinking of this solely in terms of a religion. Being Jewish is more than that - it is also an ethnicity - a race. If someone is half Chinese, or half French would you raise the same objection? As already explained you can be Jewish without following the religion, but you would STILL BE Jewish - you can be non-Jewish by birth but take up the Jewish religion. Why should anyone take offence, anyway, at the way an indivindual wants to define himself? It has nothing to do with anyone else - does it?
