I know what DNA is, but clearly you don't. There is no "Jewish" in your blood, and if you're going for the whole Nazi 1/4, 1/2 Jew, etc. that is soooo wrong. A religion or culture is not a part of your DNA, and it's ridiculous to think otherwise.
Again, what is that quarter of my ancestry? You have provided no response here. It's Jewish and you can keep being stubborn, but you don't make any sense.
You wanna go for Hebrew? or Children of Isrealish? You can't call it Israeli. That's a nationality based on citizenship. Come on...try it out...it's called being Jewish!
By your logic, people in American are genetically Americans. But they aren't. They are French, Nigerian, Choctaw, etc. Again, this is a matter or heritage and DNA.
America is a country of mixed cultures from different countries. Americans, such as myself, can trace my ancestry back to different countries. Even the colonists weren't from America! They were from England! You cannot however trace your ancestry back to a religion or culture. My grandparents are Catholic, as am I; if I have children one day, will they be tracing their ancestry back to Catholicism? No. That answers your ancestry question.
So what is this 1/4 of my ancestry? You still haven't answered...I'm still waiting for an answer. I don't think you have one.
I trace that quarter of my ancestry back to the people who lived in the Middle East called Jews and who then in the diaspora moved to Latvia and Germany. "Catholic" has nothing to do with your DNA or your ethnic make-up; it's not the same with being Jewish. It's not just a religion. Interesting that you remain so stubborn here...any reason why?
I already answered your beloved ancestry question, but you obviously are to blind to see the truth. Let me tell you in plainer words. Your ancestors moved to Europe in the diaspora HUNDREDS OF YEARS before the Holocaust, therefore you are 1/8 Latvian and 1/8 English and German. There you go. If we're gonna all claim we're from the same place our ancestors were from going back thousands of years, why not just say we're all 100% from the Garden of Eden? It involves the same logic as what you're saying, so why not right?
Lololo...you're a funny one. I'm not a single bit Latvian. My ancestors resided there a short while. I have no Latvian ancestry, no Latvian blood, no Latvian DNA, if you prefer. Just like a lifetime in America has given me no American blood or American DNA. By your reasoning, I'm 100% American. But then "reasoning" is not a strong point for you here.
If I decide to convert to Judaism, I will be Jewish. Genetics play no role in my choice of faith. I will have the right to call myself Jewish, even though my ethnicity doesn't even come near. That's the difference.
@Petergiaquinta if you want to tie a religion into DNA and blood, by all means. Just know how ridiculous that sounds to the rest of us that know better.
Well, one Jew told me you HAVE To have a Jewish Mother (a fate worse than death IMO) to be "Officially" Jewish. He was serious, too... apparently there's some sort of "Tradition", Or Something.
Suppose there was proof of "Jewish DNA?" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetic_...
Granted, it's Wikipedia so people will always question the validity and authenticity of the information. But the claim that there is no such thing as Jewish DNA at least needs a qualifier to explain exactly what that statement means.
And as for the "have to have a Jewish mother" bit...
Oye vay! Let the orthodox fundamentalisits have their voice but don't give it unnecesary weight.
And feel free to go to more "scholarly" sources...but Wikipedia does a great job providing the science. Laura and Mariana don't seem to understand either genetics or being Jewish.
I read someplace that Jews are fundamentally indistinguishable from Arabs in terms of genetic heritage (Which would make sense since they were all stealing each others' wimmin in Biblical times). (I sort of looked for that in the Wankipedia article but didn't see it... my eyes were glazing over though)
That article gets way too technical for a dummy like me, but apparently science can distinguish genetic differences between Ashkenazi and Sephardic Jews, as well as differences between those two types of Jews and population groups of neighboring Palestinians, Samaritans, et al. Science is smart!
One of the most interesting things I found in the article refers to some sub-Saharan African Jews who geneticists have identified as having semitic DNA as well. That's some fascinating stuff to have come out of Wikipedia...
