Mariana True, but it certainly isn't a race. You're either Jewish, or you're not. There is no "part" involved.

Petergiaquinta So what was up with all the non-religious Jews that Hitler killed, Mariana? They were just dark haired, dark-eyed Germans and Dutch and Danish and French and Polish and whatever...?

When a geneticist examines the DNA of a non-practicing Jew, what do you suppose he finds? The genes of a German or a Hungarian or a Spaniard? No...

Jeez, think a little before you post these things.

Mariana That's because Jews are a people that trace their ancestry back to the same area. That does not make them a race. They are also not a universalized religion, meaning they never expanded by forcing people into their religion. Meaning those same people from the same background never traveled to distant lands and married and reproduced there with the natives like the Christians and Roman Catholics did. THIS is why the majority of them have similar features.
Maybe YOU should think a little before posting these things.

Petergiaquinta So what would you call these people from the same background? I call them Jews and so does everyone else who's thinking about it. And if they want to call themselves something else, they can. But you can't. And again, what does the DNA show? They aren't German, honey!

Mariana So?

message 6: by Petergiaquinta (new)

Petergiaquinta So what are these "same people from the same background"? You haven't said. But I think you know the answer. It's "Jews."

Mariana So?

message 8: by Petergiaquinta (new)

Petergiaquinta So I guess that solves the mystery of your thread. Time to move on...

message 9: by Mariana (new)

Mariana I disagree with what you have to say Petergiaquinta, but because you are from the internet and not in my actual life, I don't feel the need to continue this conversation because I really don't care. That is why I answered with, "So?" I can see that you have nothing new to say though which is why you're relying on personal opinion and not facts.

message 10: by Petergiaquinta (new)

Petergiaquinta This isn't personal opinion. Do some research. I'm still curious about why you began this thread. Any thoughts? Clearly, you are not only on the wrong side of science, but you're on the wrong side of the majority of responders to this thread. Haven't you ever thought about maybe rethinking your position and either bowing out gracefully or even typing, "Hey, guys, I guess it doesn't bother that many folks if somebody wants to identify him or herself as 'part' Jewish." Learn from your mistake and move on. It's part of life.

message 11: by Maria (new)

Maria It's not a "mistake" - it's a question for discussion. I doubt that Mariana started this thread so all of us could set her straight. It's a place for people of all different backgrounds to state their "personal opinion" and get feedback, hopefully in a respectful adult manner.
