Shelley Young Hi Vanessa, I think Christian Grey was the character that propelled this book into stardom. He was complex, but James did give the reasons why, and as an author you have to do that for dark characters to be acceptable to readers. James did a good job on Christian's characterization. :)

Commander Spock(Live Long and Prosper) He was well-done for what he was...just not likeable. If she'd portrayed him as the sexy but totally insane guy and not some beautiful, tragic man, he would have been great.

Venessa Shelley Hello! I have to agree with you on how Mrs. James portray Christian, she indeed did a good job on him, I dont know, but in my opinion, I think why Christian is very famous especially to the ladies is because of his ever lasting goal of protecting and giving out himself to the one that he loves. Of course that is not so common among guys nowadays, Christian has portrayed the ideal 'Knight in shining in armor' that I think every girl could ask for...

Venessa Thehalfbloodprincess I think that is absolutely the whole point of the book, about Christian's fucked-upness and how the healing process has taken place throughout the whole book, I love the ending by the way, he did not really let go his character as a controlling freak because that is what he is, that's how he functions, and up until the end of the book he is still on the process of healing, which is great because that is I think what most likely will happen in real life (if they are true people). Healing and forgiving someone/ourselves sometimes takes awhile in real isn't it?

Venessa *in real life

Commander Spock(Live Long and Prosper) Venessa, yes, I'll give you that one, his "Fucked-upness" Was well portrayed(hey, that's one thing you don't see questioned in the negative reviews) So I'll gives her props for that one. His healing process is believable to a point.
But what I don't like is how Ana just LETS him get his way. To get over these controlling issues he needs to learn that people are not hunks of clay he can mold and play with and abandon at random. He can't take over everything. And the first step is for ANA, a person he loves, to teach him this because his family and therapist obviously haven't. I'm not talking about giant things like refusing a car or whatever(he might just faint) but maybe refusing to clean your plate every once in a while?
I mean in this book she obviously is a very terrible submissive so why keep up the façade? She gets punished and glared at all the time, let's just take this to the next level.

Commander Spock(Live Long and Prosper) So really, I guess my problems with Christian are created by Ana.

Midniteillusion Here is a link of common Red Flags of emotional abuse: http://www.theredflagcampaign.org/ind...
Not counting anything related to the their Sex and the Red Room of Pain other than times when Ana doesn't want to participate in the kinky/BDSM part of their relationship I counted 14 fit the Christian/Ana relationship. It's not a healthy safe or sane relationship.

Commander Spock(Live Long and Prosper) I know...and young women read it and claim it's 'So Romantic' UGH.

Midniteillusion Exactly!

Commander Spock(Live Long and Prosper) I'd rather have them thinking EDWARD was a good guy than Christian.

Shelley Young Here's the thing. Ana had some fuckedupness, too! This is what made them good together. They were two halves existing with something missing in their lives. Each other. MANY woman today allow men far worse than Christian get away with doing all sorts of things to them. The good thing is, this book is fiction. Some ppl read this book for sheer entertainment, and some took as a lesson on the type of woman not to be, which is perfectly okay. Have any of you seen the movie trailer? I have to admit it was appealing. But then again, for the most part, I enjoyed this series and I also enjoyed Twilight. HalfbloodPrincess don't yell at me! LOL

Commander Spock(Live Long and Prosper) OH MY GOD HOW COULD YOU- I'm joking.
I haven't seen the trailer, but I really want to.

Shelley Young HAHAHA!

Commander Spock(Live Long and Prosper) Yes, yes. I'm hilarious.

Commander Spock(Live Long and Prosper) OH MY GOD SHELLEY I JUST SAW THE TRAILER.
It's hilarious...Christian doesn't look like I thought he would.

Shelley Young I'm with you! They had picked others to play Christian. I don't think this guy did justice to Christian's physical nature. Hopefully, he will do good with his character. :-)

Commander Spock(Live Long and Prosper) Yeah, as much as I hate him Christian WAS supposed to be breathtakingly attractive to a point of ridiculousness, and he just doesn't look it.
