John Perry

[close] A resident of Ohio, John Perry was an advertising copywriter in the 24th century. At the age of 75, he joined the Colonial Defense Forces, which transferred hie consciousness into a genetically modified body. After distinguishing himself in a number of combat roles, he was mustered out of the military early and became a farmer and local administrator on one of the human colonies.

A few years later, Perry was approached by the Colonial Union (the organization in charge of humanity's interstellar colonization) and asked to become the chief administrator of a new colony called Roanoke. Soon after agreeing to undertake the role, he discovered that the colony was part of a plan to disrupt a trans-species alliance called the Conclave, which was created to manage interstellar colonization among the known species. Though initially going along with the Colonial Union's plans, the CU's decision to abandon the colony to its fate led him to establish his own relationship to the Conclave and open up the heretofore isolated Earth to greater interstellar contact.
