Blay is an only child who comes from a warm, supportive family. Friends with Qhuinn since childhood, he initially met John Matthew at the Brotherhood's training facility and quickly became his ally. He was the first of the three friends to go through his transition. Like John and Qhuinn, he lives with the Brotherhood and is a proficient soldier in the war against the lessers. In Lover Mine Blay has his first romantic/sexual encounter with another male, Saxton, a lawyer for the race as well as Qhuinn's cousin.
