Jaime Lannister is the twin brother of Cersei Lannister and the older brother of Tyrion Lannister. He served in the Kingsguard of the Mad King Aerys before he sided with Robert Baratheon and killed Aerys.
He and Cersei have three children together; Robert was killed before he discovered this. Jaime was captured by the Tullys at the battle of Whispering Woods, but Catelyn Stark (a Tully by birth) helps him escape in exchange for the release of her daughters, Sansa and Arya.
