Cathryn Chapman nearly gave up her writing career when her eighth grade English teacher refused to believe her sensual poem could have been written by somebody so young. Two years later, when Cathryn was fourteen, that same English teacher declared she should start writing for Mills & Boon, and a women’s fiction writer was born. Cathryn graduated from university with a Business Degree and spent seven years travelling the world – working on cruise ships, and living in London, New York, Paris and South America. In her thirties, she left a successful marketing and public relations career to pursue her dream of gracing the stages in London’s West End. Cathryn Chapman I worked on cruise ships in my twenties, and left because I didn't want to take the 'promotion' they were offering me, and I didn't like the environme…moreI worked on cruise ships in my twenties, and left because I didn't want to take the 'promotion' they were offering me, and I didn't like the environment... and then I went back to work on ships again in my thirties - because I had forgotten what I didn't like about them!

So after years of travelling and trying a couple of new careers (which didn't work out), I finally realised that my calling in life was actually to take all the crazy experiences I'd had, and the variety of things I'd seen, and turn them into books!(less)

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Cathryn Chapman Write every day, even if you don't feel like it. When I was halfway through this book, I felt like I'd never finish it... so I set myself a deadline, …moreWrite every day, even if you don't feel like it. When I was halfway through this book, I felt like I'd never finish it... so I set myself a deadline, and made myself promise to stick to this one rule - "Sit down every night for 15 minutes. If you don't write much, or what you write is crap, you've only spent 15 minutes." Sometimes, 15 minutes turned into 3hrs and 3000 words... but you need to just sit down at your desk.

Another author once told me - "Writing books isn't achieved if you wait for inspiration - it's about dedication and commitment to finishing the job." It worked for me, anyway!(less)
