I worked on cruise ships in my twenties, and left because I didn't want to take the 'promotion' they were offering me, and I didn't like the environment... and then I went back to work on ships again in my thirties - because I had forgotten what I didn't like about them!
So after years of travelling and trying a couple of new careers (which didn't work out), I finally realised that my calling in life was actually to take all the crazy experiences I'd had, and the variety of things I'd seen, and turn them into books!

Write every day, even if you don't feel like it. When I was halfway through this book, I felt like I'd never finish it... so I set myself a deadline, and made myself promise to stick to this one rule - "Sit down every night for 15 minutes. If you don't write much, or what you write is crap, you've only spent 15 minutes." Sometimes, 15 minutes turned into 3hrs and 3000 words... but you need to just sit down at your desk.
Another author once told me - "Writing books isn't achieved if you wait for inspiration - it's about dedication and commitment to finishing the job." It worked for me, anyway!
