Each follows a different character, but they follow the same over-arcing story line they timing only slightly overlaps. There is far too much political intrigue to be able to follow (particularly the second half of) Dark Triumph without have read Grave Mercy. There is also some background for Sybella's character that is covered in book one.(less)
