I am having trouble liking the character of Nina in this book. does she evolve into someone more mature and together. In the beginning here I find her so juvenile and obnoxious, not like in the previous book. not sure I want to finish this?

I think the whole point of the story, including the flashbacks, is that Nina developed into the woman she is because of the circumstances. This woman has lacked any kind of romance in her life and now she struggles with her fears and insecurities that resulted from that life while also developing into an extremely independent, competent and intelligent woman.

Yes, she evolves and I think that the book is a character study of how. But what is even more impressive is the Nina of later books, especially Sonnet's story.(less)
