Is it just me, or is this very similar to the Penelope Cruz movie "Woman on Top"? You know--food, magic, forbidden romance and all?

Did anyone else find this story similar to the Little Mermaid fable where the female lives the life of a human but then has a price to pay? I found it very similar but with markedly different flavour notes. Absolutely loved this book BTW.
