Unfortunately, some are not able to differentiate between the two. In the first book there are depictions present, but we view it through the lends of a character who is absolutely disgusted by it. Also, these are all actions by the royal upper-class, who as a whole are the villains of the trilogy. If depictions bother you as a reader, this probably isn't the series for you, but there is in no way any romanticization.

Don't know about the mimicking part, but the books that I have read that had similar concepts are:
- Song of the fallen (series) by Rachel Haimowitz (very similar in concept to CP)
-Darshian Tales (series) by Ann Somerville (captivity)
-Lord of the White hell (series) by Ginn Hale (there is no captivity, but the character is in an enemy country that is alien compared to his, and everyone is very prejudiced . Pretty much like CP only without the whole slave part).
They are all MM Romances, and even though they are all similar, in no way are these series the same. I hope you will like it, and if you find some more series (or books) please recommend them because I am also still looking for series like CP :')
Good luck, and I hope you like those.(less)
