That seemed enough, so reading a summary would be fine, and even that isn't totally necessary. I suspect that the two stories are more closely linked than I realise so want to read '1984' again now that I've finished 'Julia'. There are a lot of scenes told from a different perspective, so I think there's more overlap than I realise.(less)

Right now, I’m presuming that it shows the corruption of all parties, none of them are ever completely ‘pure’. Perhaps, it also reiterates the Party of Ingsoc’s belief that there is no war without peace and vice versa, for the brotherhood to have their peace, it would be at war with Ingsoc as the two are not compatible? It’s probably a further criticism of power and one’s lack of choice too, again the two are not compatible and could not coexist within a party or a person. This could be completely wrong, it would be interesting to know what others think! (less)

There is also a mention of an Attlee as a counter-revolutionary, which is the name of a Prime Minister, so there may be further reference points to reality.(less)
