What time period does the Princess Academy series take place in?

I did a bit of research and found out that the author drew a lot of her inspiration regarding character names from Medieval Scandinavia (so like 1050-1350). So maybe roughly that time period? From what I can tell, the architecture from that time fits pretty well with what was described. Hope that helps! :)(less)

Does anybody have book recommendations with similar romance elements to this one? I positively adore Miri's innocence throughout this whole trilogy. Her relationship with Peder is just so simple and perfect and I'd love some books with with similar themes. :)
