The book literally just glosses over the fact that she's not there, and I kind of get the impression that she is being shamed because she likes makeup and parties, making whatever the implication, extremely patronizing and anti-feminist. Made me mad, made a lot of people mad. Dark Materials exists because of this choice!(less)
