I read this when it first came out in 1986 and the date for that one is 2006. I remember that this got a huge amount of hype as "the next Gone with the Wind," and I believe it was her first novel. (For me, it did not live up to the hype - the heroine was no Scarlett O'Hara but kind of wimpy in my opinion - but YMMV.)(less)

The writing and the research. I simply fell for your characters. I really liked how you put a humane face to Louis XIV in before Versailles. I wait impatiently for your next book.(less)
