However i highly recommend that your kid gives it a go as it is at its core a very creative and colorful book that tackles many issues and scenarios with regards to childhood fears in a way which i have not seen any other form of media attempt to do as succinctly-for example i read this book when i was 12 and was very afraid of natural disasters and diseases, and the vivid imagery, character dynamics similar to other books id read and thorough analysis of fear in this book really helped me.
I know that this author in particular goes out of her way to see children as free thinking, highly intelligent and critical individuals and her writing reflects that. Some children have an affinity for horror like R L steins books- but this genre and series is very special. Its not an easy book to read for all ages and requires alot of reflection - but thats what makes it worth reading. (less)
