The book's description (not here) claims it is a sequel to The Last Gentleman. But nothing here on GoodReads indicates that it is so. Is it? Is it necessary or useful to read TLG first?

I read The Last Gentleman first, and found that to be useful to understanding the characters in The Second Coming. They can stand alone, however, so not necessary to read in chronological order.(less)

I just loved this book! I've been wondering if anyone has figured out whether the setting is, perhaps, Cashiers? Or another town close to that? I've been trying to figure out whether or not the place can be pinpointed--or if it just has to be left at a fictional place. Has anyone thought about that or tried to figure it out?
