She is the palace mean girl who makes life miserable for Aerin because she is jealous that she is no longer the youngest child in the family and because in the 1980s when it was written it didn't occur to the author to have Aerin's dad, the King, stand up for his daughter and banish the nasty girl because bullying was not a watch word then. If you do the math, Galanna was significantly older than Aerin and was basically an adult picking on a child. She gets comeuppance at the end, but I still think Aerin should have booted her out of the castle.(less)
