This classic is celebrating its 60th anniversary since publication. Any one else planning on re-reading it or reading it for the first time? There is enduring interest in the themes of this book and traces of it can be seen in such recent works as "The Hunger Games". I think I'll be reading it again.

I really enjoyed it much more than a lot of the books I DID have to read in school. I can now check this great classic off my reading bucket list.(less)

Ralph turns to Piggy as he is deceived by Jack's irresponsibility and only after that shows to respect him.
Jack and Piggy simply have incompatible personalities and wouldn't get along in any case.
Piggy is the one who really thinks between him and Ralph and the one who keeps Ralph going when he is discouraged and thinks of giving up his leadership. That's why I think that it would rather be easier for Ralph to become a savage without Piggy.(less)

The characters were always interrupting each other and sometimes I had no idea who was speaking. I mean they were in groups of 6+ people most of the time, and I just had to guess who doing the talking. (less)
