I also think Jack thought she'd been victimized by her father and chose to keep that detail away from the public. He sheltered her. I had the feeling he still had a soft spot for her, which I found troubling. I don't agree with the choice to write the story with her untouched in the situation. But that's the only reason I could come up with - and that it diverted attention away from the murder itself.(less)

Then, he passes it on to an author who writes the actual book. I might be mistaken, but I seem to remember that from an interview with him on a news show.(less)
