It was intended to be an epic, but Colridge was visited by a man from Porlock when he had just started the poem. The visit totally destroyed any inspiration that Colridge had, and the poem now stands alone at a little over 50 verses. It still stands with the great pieces of literature so who knows what this poem may have become.(less)
