The first books events are referred to quite a lot and reading this book before Princess of the Midnight Ball will ruin Princess of the Ball if you ever go back and read it.(less)

SPOILERS FOR BOOK 1 BELOW:

So towards the end of book 1, Galen killed the King Under Stone, making Illiken the new King. Then when Rose and Galen were trying to escape the Underworld, Illiken held onto Rose so she couldn't escape so Galen carved Illiken's name into a silver branch from the Underworld forest and stabbed Illiken with it, killing him.
That means the next brother became King and according to this information given by the author: https://www.jessicadaygeorge.com/prin... the next brother is Prince Parian. It makes sense that it's not Rionin because he was already introduced by name earlier in the book yet in this scene where Parian says he's the new King no name was mentioned, he was just described as a gaunt figure (if it had been Rionin he would've just been described by his name).

Now nothing really happened to Parian when Galen sealed the underworld gate with the black wool chain, it just says that Parian screamed and winced, but it doesn't say that he was hurt or died. It's possible he touched the chain to try and remove it and it killed him. That's not really explained but you have to assume somehow Parian was killed in order for Rionin who is the next brother to become the new King.(less)

While reading you can look up the book and add it to your "currently reading" list. The button to do so is big and green, located under the title or to the right of it. It normally reads "want to read", which you can change the category by clicking the down arrow on the button. I personally just read the bok ad after finishing it add it to my "Read" list, as well as add the "date finished" in the review tab.(less)

The "fight" scene with the fairy godmother was, for me,....meh. I could have done with a little more rounding out of the ending in that respect. But other than that I loved the book? </spoiler>
Great question
