If that was a red herring, I totally fell for it. During the entire Big Scene with Frank and Shay, I read along expecting Shay to tell Frank that Rosie was their half-sister. When that didn't happen, I still expected the author to give us a private flash-back of some kind to show us it was true and was the real reason Shay (or the father) tried to break up Frank and Rosie. Gaaah!(less)

He began the series back in the 1950's so some of the …moreThis question was asked a year ago but Ed McBain's 87th Precinct series is an oldie but goodie. He began the series back in the 1950's so some of the early books are very period, noir-ish which I think is fun. He wrote them up to this death in 2005 so they become more modern. We follow the same precinct and detectives and, sometimes, the same criminals too. There are over 50 novels in the series but the early ones are really short. I haven't read them all but really enjoyed the ones I did read.(less)

Then I read this one (again, it…moreI started with #6 in the series, not realizing it was a series. It was just what was available on Libby, so I read it. Then I read this one (again, it was available) and it seems like they are only loosely connected (Detective Morin in this book is in #6, but the books have nothing to do with each other otherwise).

My point being...you can read them in any order.(less)
