I've read the Farseer Triliogy, but should I read the Liveship trilogy before embarking on this one? Or is the only thing that links all three trilogies that they are in the same world?

Just within the first hundred pages of Fool's Errand there are references that make more sense, and maybe this is just me, but there were even some nuances to Fitz's narrative that made more sense when informed by the Liveships trilogy. It's interesting to have a grasp on the changes the world is going through, even though the time covered in between doesn't have anything to do with Fitz himself.
I also think it makes the return to Fitz's narrative sweeter for having spent so much time away from him. It's nice to have occupied the fifteen years in between the Farseer and the Tawny Man doing something else instead of jumping right back into his life after so much has changed. I think it's written as a linear series and should be read as one! (less)

I haven't read anything by Robin Hobb before, but am looking forward to diving into her world. I found this book at a thrift store by chance and was really happy. I am wondering though, should I buy the Farseer trilogy and read through that first, before I get into the Tawny man trilogy? Will anything make sense? Or will it just be a better experience to start from the beginning and let things unfold?

I did not care for the sexual assault in the Liveship Traders trilogy, but am looking forward to reuniting with Fitz and the Fool - can someone tell me if there are rape scenes in this trilogy as well?

Hattie no rape scenes or even references to sexual assault! always worth checking storygraph for content warnings, for future reference :)

Can I read this without reading the Farseer trilogy? I had tried to read it but it did not quite grip me so I gave up on the first book. However, I really loved the Liveship Traders Trilogy. So could I just proceed with the Tawny Man? Thank you in advance!
