In my opinion, I didn't find the book scary at all, but it is by far the most gruesome, graphic book I have ever read in my entire life. There are very graphic descriptions of skin infections and other various concerning imagery. (less)

But I wouldn't recommend it for any younger than eleven, considering the graphic scenes and gore. It also depends on the maturity of the reader. (less)
