One of t…moreHey Hannah, I don't check in on GR often (too terrifying) but I hope you don't mind me butting in. I was a medieval studies major in college. One of the things that bothered me a lot was the changing role of Mary (Bea/Miriam) in the early church. In council after council, a bunch of celibate men stripped away her agency and her humanity in order to turn her into a passive, upper-class, virginal ideal of womanhood.

I wanted a character whose business was life to serve as a foil to Azrael, so when I wrote Bea, I tried to give back everything that had been taken from her.

Does that make any sense at all?(less)
