I find it interesting that so many readers give it low stars while many others prefer the t.v. series. I'll take reality every time over made for t.v. dramas. As far as your question goes : yes, the book is definitely worth reading. It's obvious many of the readers have never done jail time as they so cavalierly dismiss her experiences. It's worth the read.

While not a funny story, there are humorous episodes to relate. Yes, it skips around a bit, but I loved her take on some of the characters she met. The author seemed to find some good in the women she liked. It is not an action book where you turn the page to learn how it turns out. You know the ending, Piper gets out of prison - it is told from the start. But how she gets through the ordeal, the trauma of such an experience is the story. Real life is not always funny or fast. Piper tells how she tried to life a life too fast, and it caught up with her.(less)

Iam currently reading this book Iam in the middle but got bored , this book is describing the people in prison as better than those in the real world , they are helpful , nice and caring and cooperative , where could we find such people ? Besides they are not racist !! It seems unreal and idealistic , is it worth continuing reading it??
