No, you do not need to read Falling Free in order to enjoy this book.

Falling Free is set shortly after the Quaddies were created by a corporation to provide cheap free-fall labor. It tells the story of how they got free from that slavery.

Diplomatic Immunity is set two centuries later, with an unrelated plot and completely different characters. It's a Miles Vorkosigan story. Miles, as Imperial Auditor, is set to a Quaddie space station to solve a mess that a Barrayaran military spaceship escorting a trade fleet has got into with the local authorities.

So, the Quaddies in Diplomatic Immunity are descendants of the Quaddies in Falling Free. But that's it. There's no more connection between the stories. There are just a couple of minor references to the events in Falling Free, since it's part of Quaddie history, but you will have no problem whatsoever if you haven't read Falling Free.(less)
